Analysis of the frequency of post transfusion adverse reactions and their association with blood components supplied by the Regional Blood Transfusion Center in Poznań (2011–2018)

Background: Blood component transfusions are common, often life-saving therapies, however they sometimes (0.2–10% ) result in adverse reactions (ARs). The study aim was to analyse AR frequency and relation transfusion patients treated with blood components as well present recipient, donor, factors that induce ARs. Material methods: retrospective analysis included 650 cases of ARs following which were reported the Transfusion Center Poznań period 2011–2018. analysed for their intensity/severity, modification storage time prior transfusion, patient’s clinical condition history sex age both donors recipients. Finally, each case imputability assessed. Results: In population, infrequent ( < 0.1%) depended on type component, recipient donor history. symptoms observed found be related less than 50% cases. It has been demonstrated deaths whose either severe or fairly/relatively good who usually manifested (SARs) transfusion. Conclusions: (i) identified rarely reported. lower incidence rate compared published data indicates not all reporting procedure needs changed. (ii) Confirmed determined (iii) Some donor/recipient/blood — specific may certain types reactions.
